Civil War Period JOHN TARRANT NEW YORK ceramic pot and lid

The Tarrant Company dates to before the 1850's.  John Tarrant took over in 1853 selling this cure for sexual diseases.  Copabia was the main ingredient.  Although the company was changed in 1861 to Tarrant & Co the stack of product was used during the Civil War years.  I have not seen these pots after the mid 1860's.  Measuring 2 5/8" diameter at the base and 1 3/8" high.  It has a small eraser size flake and a couple of tiny rim chips that are on the rear.  The stenciling is in nice shape.

This pot and lid was found in New Orleans.  A shipment of this medicine was part of the cargo of the S.S. Republic that sank off the coast of Georgia on the way to New Orleans from New York.

Price: $45.00 plus postage and insurance, plus 4% tax for Louisiana Residents.
