F. Seignouret & Co.
This is a beautiful and rare seal wine bottle from
Francois Seignouret was a veteran of the Battle of New Orleans. He was a wine merchant and a talented furniture maker. His house that was built in 1816, the Seignouret House, is still standing in the New Orleans French Quarter. The bottle is olive-green, has a crude applied string lip, and a shallow dome kick-up base. Height is about 12”. It has great crudeness, bubbles, and stretch lines. During the glass blowing operation and the lip shearing a couple of insignificant chipping spots exist on the top edge of the lip, one about ¼” in length. Swirl lines in photos are glass crudeness, not etching.
A similar bottle sold in the Grove auction in 1991 for $3,300 plus a 10% buyers premium ($3, 630)
Price: $4,000.00 plus postage and insurance.
