John Heil New Orleans

These are two John Heil pontil sodas that are aqua with tapered wedge tops with a little dullness. John Heil was killed during the Civil War at the battle of Antietam September 17, 1862. He was a Sargent in the 6th Louisiana regiment.

1.) Embossed JOHN HEIL & CO (& mark at angle-see picture)/MINERAL WATER. It is 7 3/8" tall. Two tiny pinhead sized shallow chips are under the lip. Also, two 1/8" bubble bursts, one is on the side by the mold line and the other is at the base edge. Some iron does exist on the base.

2.) Embossed JOHN HEIL'S / MINERAL WATER/4TH DIST/N.O. It is 7" tall. This one is a little darker. It has an internal lip bruise 3/8" by 1/16" following the lip edge. Some shallow chipping exists along the base edge and one on the lip, all about 1/8" long. A small ding is on the TH.

He bottled ginger beer at Fulton and Harmony Sts 1849-1850, soda at 4th between Rousseau & Fulton 1850-1851, and at Jersey between Washington & 6th Sts. 4th district between 1852-1854.

The condition of these two bottles can be greatly improved with a professional tumble cleaning.
