This is a heavy metal book holder that slides out to accommodate various sizes of books. It has a patent date of 1923 embossed on the back near the bottom edge. It is made of pot metal and hand painted. The figures appear to be possibly African Americans, but we are not sure. Some paint is missing in some areas, and there is some corrosion on it.
